The paint-starved portrait
hangs upon the wall and waits,
but who doth pity it?  None!
For once, we all faced a blank canvas,
and mark’d it with our own mediums.

By crayons, pastels, oils and inks,
we filled our lives with
grandiose delusions of artistry,
producing at the end,
to our utter delight,
works that we framed, a masterpiece.

Yet when the illustrious veils are ripped away,
what remains therein
to shudder and sway our hearts,
false and numbed?
We respond to the beckoning
of the finite world,
we belong, we belong.

Now set on the easel the task that lies ahead,
Fear not the future for you soon may be dead,
Understand men with your pitiful palette
Then begin, and end, as the image.

For *delusionzOFgrandeur. Yup, the poem’s named after her, and there’s a reference to her username in it too :D

Now, this is quite a complicated poem, so I’m pretty much going to *translate* it to show you guys what I was going for when I wrote it. It was supposed to be deep and thought-provoking ^^; You can understand why then, with the way my brain functions, it took me so long to do :XD:

A blank canvas (newborn baby) is waiting for attention, but no-one considers the future of this child because we were all in the same situation once. We made our lives what they are today by choosing different mediums (actions) to dictate our personalities.

At the end of our lives, will we be proud of what we’ve achieved? We frame the lives of those that have gone before us, dubbing them ‘masterpieces’. Will we be the same?

But when you take these lives down to their barest minimum, what is left to strike your compassion? We live in a materialistic world where we are determined to fit in.

Now we all know what we have to do in life. We paint images of ourselves by our actions, and there’s no point in wasting time because we could pass on at any moment.

I would really, really love comments on this.

Wow. This is so beyond what I was expecting for a gift.
It’s astounding! The depth and insight, and my God the word choice…
Everything about it is exquisite. It’s more than I could have asked for!

I adore how you trailed the metaphor throughout the piece.
And the rhythm is so interesting, it just keeps me reading on.
So clever of you to work in my username like that!

You MUST let me return the favor. Either note me with what you’d like,
or respond to the comment---either way, I owe you big time!

Yay! I'm so glad you like it! ^^ That was one of my favourite parts too.

And as for the word choice... :) well, it came as a part of writing in this style. I don't often use this tone, but it conveyed what I felt best so it was necessary. ;) Metaphorical poems are always interesting.

:XD: Your user name? :D That was one of the first things I was determined to do!

Uh... ^^; thanks very much. I'll have a think about it and then let you know, okay?

 You're welcome. Honestly, thank you for the request. Writing things for other people really stretches me. It was my pleasure.

I like the image-ry though when i read it i read as the road to life and not a new born baby.

Itachi: What is it about my brother that makes you care about him so much? He’s a rogue ninja who abandoned you.

Naruto: Because he’s like a brother to me…And I’m a better brother then you ever were!!!

Itachi:......(faint smile appears on mouth)
I think it could work as either  It's a nice interpretation. Thanks very much (personally, I am really proud of the imagery in this!)

I love the 'symbolic' pieces. <3 Though I'm terrible at interperating them without some sort of clue T-T;. :D You did an awesome job, love~ I like this one a lot. The mention of canvas or color excites me. I  color. ^^

"Pigeon, winged cloak of grey, in the city's hellish maw. One glance and you fly away.. your grace holds me in awe."
This one can be interpreted in a number of ways  I don't often use imagery in my work, though I'm a massive fan of it, so I had to really push myself for this to turn out the way it did.

:aww: You artists are so cute.
